Recaro seats will use fiberglass reinforced composite materials to enter the advanced air transportation (AAM) field

2024-04-07

Recaro Aircraft Seating (Schwabisch Hall, Germany) has reportedly been selected by Eve Air Mobility (São José dos Campos, Brazil) to design, certify and produce seats for the company's electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft , thereby entering the field of advanced air traffic (AAM).

AAM aircraft need to focus on lightweight design, especially during the development phase. To set the industry benchmark for minimum seat weight for pilot and passenger seat variants, the Recaro team chose a fiberglass-reinforced bucket design with high-quality fiberglass embedded in an epoxy resin matrix. Recaro says this design gives industrial designers a lot of freedom, allowing them to design the seat for optimal ergonomics while keeping seat weight to a minimum.

Recaro will deliver a total of 75,000 sets of GFRP seats, each containing five seats, with deliveries to begin in the first quarter of 2025. This delivery marks Recaro's entry into the AAM market.
