Fiberglass import and export situation
1. Glass fiber and product exports show a trend of "decreasing volume and increasing prices"
In the first half of 2025, my country's cumulative export volume of glass fiber and products reached 996,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 5.3%; the cumulative export value reached US$1.43 billion, a year-on-year increase of 0.3%, and the average export price increased by 5.9% year-on-year. The industry is gradually achieving a recovery in export product prices. However, the overall decline in export volume, especially the monthly export volume in the first half of the year, which was lower than the same period last year, reflects the current pessimistic outlook for the export market of glass fiber and products. In particular, uncertainties such as the US election, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the export control policy on dual-use items are affecting my country's glass fiber and product exports and require attention.
By category, from January to June, the export volumes of the five major product categories of commercial yarn, woven fabrics, machine felt, chemical felt, prepreg, and other products were 585,000 tons, 154,000 tons, 45,000 tons, 108,000 tons, and 103,000 tons, respectively, accounting for 58.7%, 15.5%, 4.6%, 10.8%, and 10.4%, respectively. Among the 31 specific tariff items, the top three export volumes were glass fiber roving, glass fiber chopped strands (length not exceeding 50 mm), and glass fiber chemically bonded mats, totaling 384,000 tons, 167,000 tons, and 84,000 tons, respectively.
2. Imports of glass fiber and products continue to shrink
In the first half of 2025, my country's cumulative imports of glass fiber and products reached 50,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.7%, and the cumulative import value reached US$570 million, a year-on-year increase of 45.0%. While the domestic demand market showed signs of recovery overall in the first half of the year, imports of glass fiber and products continued to shrink, reflecting the continued fierce competition in the domestic market, especially in the mid- and low-end segments.
Import Share of my country's Five Major Categories of Glass Fiber and Products in 2025
By category, imports of commercial yarn, woven fabrics, mechanical felt, chemical felt, prepregs, and other products totaled 37,000 tons, 5,000 tons, 8,000 tons, 2,000 tons, and 5,000 tons, respectively, from January to June, accounting for 74.0%, 10.0%, 1.6%, 4.0%, and 10.0%, respectively. Among the 31 specific tariff items, the top three import categories were commercial yarn: chopped glass strands (length not exceeding 50 mm), roving glass, and chopped glass strands (length exceeding 50 mm), accounting for 22,000 tons, 9,000 tons, and 5,000 tons, respectively.
