How is fiberglass made?
It's easy to see from the composition of glass fiber that its production process doesn't involve chemical reactions. Its primary process involves melting the raw materials and then shaping them. Glass fiber production can be described as "the art of fire and technology." Currently, 93% of global glass fiber is produced using the tank kiln drawing method, an advanced process dominated by my country. The core process can be summarized as follows: "Raw material mixing → High-temperature melting → High-speed drawing → Post-processing":
First, quartz sand and other raw materials are mixed in precise proportions, removed of impurities, and then fed into the tank kiln. At a high temperature of 1600°C, the raw materials are melted into a uniform glass melt, which is then clarified to remove bubbles. The purified glass melt flows through bushings (each with hundreds of tiny holes) and is drawn into continuous fibers by high-speed drawing machines at speeds of tens of meters per second. Finally, after sizing, bundling, and drying, the resulting fiber strands are ready for further processing.
Generally speaking, the directly produced product is glass fiber yarn, which is then processed according to demand to produce glass fiber products. Glass fiber products are divided into glass fiber felt products for electronics, glass fiber felt products for industrial use, glass fiber felt products for reinforcement and glass fiber reinforced plastic products according to their types.
